Writer Donna Tartt attended Bennington College, and she was well aware of those mysterious disappearances (Paula Welden’s, in particular) when she wrote her debut novel The Secret History. Horror author Shirley Jackson also drew inspiration from Paula Welden’s story for her novel Hangsaman.
