As for the photos, some (particularly the ones in the article about Rosa Vercellana) are scanned from my books (they are a bit grainy, even though I cheat and reduce the moiré pattern in Photoshop as much as I can);

some (like the ones in this article) come from the digital archives of the city of Modena (I am a born and bred Modenese) or the city of Castelnuovo Rangone (I work as a civil registrar there and my job, though mostly menial, has some nice perks - such as having all the original population registers from the 1860s onwards at my disposal;

some others are courtesy of always-handy Wikimedia Commons (gotta love Wiki Commons!)
