Granted, I'm not from the US but even in Italy the amount of discarded clothing and home appliances is becoming a problem. The volunteers at the local charities in my area always look really pleased when someone walks to the counter with a bunch of old clothes in their arms - they simply don't have enough space to store everything, and they sure don't ask buyers what they plan to do with their purchase. Even dog shelters stopped accepting donated blankets and sweaters.
