Can I say this is also a very American thing? I have seldom experienced the same level of fierce evangelical wokeness in non-American spaces, both online and in real life.

And this attitude is not limited to "woke" content: I don’t know how many times an American, who has just read an essay (or article or post or Tweet) about an international controversy or another, has felt the need to take a patronizing tone, smile and go "please, my European/Asian/South American/African friend, take a seat and let ME explain to YOU the issues YOUR country is facing. I, an American twenty-something with a superficial understanding of world politics and history, who applies American cultural lenses to everything I see, have just learned about This Thing related to your country, politics or culture, I feel like I understand it better than you will ever do and I now have a moral duty to educate you about it."
